The Importance of Six Sigma Certification

Is Six Sigma Certification important? You would imagine so, however the real interesting part depends on the context. For example, it may seem strange but many people see six sigma certification as a license to move.

So what does it mean to move and are we talking internally or externally? It has been said that when searching for a six sigma related job with an external organisation certification is very important. Essentially it provides you with a portable license to bring your six sigma tools, techniques and ability to another organisation. If you look at six sigma certification as a bridge it may be easier, but what sort of bridge are we talking about. It would be a bridge between your academic knowledge (six sigma training courses) and your technical, job related competencies. Essentially this is what the certification proves. It shows that you can apply the theory in a practical way.

It is true that one can apply theory in a practical way without Six Sigma Certification and for the purposes of this post we are only looking at the importance of it in relation to portability. Having analysed many six sigma related job postings, without taking a DMAIC approach, it is easy to see that "Six Sigma Certification" pops up on the majority of them.

So it can be assumed that Six Sigma Certification is very important, particularly for people planning to gain promotion by switching companies. What do you think?
